43 year old, Raine Saunders is a health and nutrition writer and creator of Agriculture Society. www.Agriculturesociety.com is dedicated to sustainable food and farming, traditional foods, eco-friendly living, natural remedies, and food politics. Since 2010 she has been a holistic health coach with an emphasis on the GAPS healing protocol by Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride. Raine is a dedicated mother, wife and activist.  Through her writing and coaching she educates the public on food politics including exposing the marketing ploys of our corporate American food system and reporting on the dangers of GMOs and vaccination. She sings the benefits of raw milk, grass-finished meats and local organic produce to promote personal health and the health of communities.

35 year old Tenille Wheeler is a single mother to 4 daughters. After suffering a debilitating aneurism during the birth of her second child she began to put her life back together by first re-learning to crawl and walk and then by responding to the nutritional cry of her body. After a lifetime of malnourishment, Tenille learned to feed herself to heal.  Now she is studying to become a holistic nutritional health coach and her life’s goal is to bring health and happiness to as many people as possible.

Meet Your Farmer: Ed Wilsey of Homestead Natural Foods

Ed Wilsey is a lifelong rancher who owns Homestead Natural Foods with 2 other ranch families.  Bill and Carol Gale of Middleton, Keith and Sharon Heuttig of Jerome and my guest Ed and his wife, Debby Wilsey of Marsing, are together the proprietors of Homestead Natural Foods.  The collective also markets beef from other small ranchers who follow the same grass-fed growing protocols.  This cooperative effort allows small Idaho ranches an opportunity to make a living selling their wholesome products, where alone they might not be able to fill a steady account to stores or restaurants or to afford the transport and marketing costs associated with bringing your product to market here in Idaho.

Part 2-Mom’s Panel- My child has food allergies

Mom’s Panel-Kids with Food Allergies-the first of a two part series on children with food allergies. Joining me in the studio, the mothers of children with food sensitivites. Dr. Ashley Davis, MD has two daughters with Celiac Disease.  Ashley was with us on last week’s show discussing Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease.  Joe’l Phillips, mother of 6 year old Margaret who not only is gluten intolerant but has severe emotional/ behavior reactions to sugars and food additives. Beth Markley, who before diagnosing her constantly lethargic son, Jack with wheat sensitivity thought he was just a type B in a type A family.  Making dietary changes in any ho usehold can be a challenge. When it comes to the foods we are talking about which include wheat, dairy and sugar it can be an absolute nightmare. The children of these mothers are now as healthy as they have ever been. Food allergies are difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are different for every child. Some suffer constipation whereas others have loose stool, some are withdrawn where others have tantrums. Body pains, stomach or gut aches, behavioral challenges, headaches, eczema and rashes, lethargy and insomnia, susceptibility to other allergens to name only a few.

All mom’s want the best for their kids and  it’s important to look at our children with an open set of eye’s and understand that they are speaking to us with their ailments and attitudes in the only ways they know how. When you have always felt bad in your body you have no way of expressing this with words because a food allergy child doesn’t understand that there is another way of  feeling and so cannot express that they feel sick. Instead we have to watch for the other clues that their behaviors and immune systems are showing us. (the photo above is a real image of undiagnosed celiac children-London 1938)
